Economist and strategic consultant Rafael Marrero sounded the alarm during an interview on Actualidad Radio, where he asserted that China’s presence in Cuba represents a direct threat to the national security of the United States and the stability of the American continent.
“China is not only in Cuba; it is breathing down the neck of the United States, and that is a direct threat to the entire continent,” Marrero stated, referring to the growing geopolitical influence of the Chinese regime in Latin America.
During the conversation with Agustín Acosta and Carlos Acosta, Marrero detailed how Xi Jinping’s regime has established technological infrastructure and intelligence bases in Cuban territory, a few kilometers off the coast of Florida, in close collaboration with the Havana regime.
The economist denounced this strategy as part of a global advance of what he called “Chinese imperial socialism.”
“We are witnessing an axis of modern evil: China, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. This is not a conspiracy theory; it is an operational reality that is underway,” the analyst maintained.

Marrero also called on the US administration to stop underestimating the threat and to regain ground, not only economically but also at the strategic-military level. “Our dependence on China has made us vulnerable. We must bring back our supply chains, invest in domestic production, and secure the hemisphere.”
The interview clarified that Chinese advancement is no longer a distant or theoretical regional scenario. According to Marrero, this is a “silent occupation” that is advancing with the alleged complicity of authoritarian regimes and in the face of what he described as Western passivity.
